A leading British businessman and Calvia resident is furious with Calvia Council after his vehicle was towed away from the Santa Ponsa municipal car park while entertaining guests at a nearby restaurant on Monday night. “We parked up at around 9.15 and there was plenty of room in the car park. We had a quick meal only to return and discover my car was not there. I called the police and was informed that it had been towed away because we had parked in an area which had been set aside for councillors and officials wishing to attend the local fiestas. There were a few signs posted on the trees but none of us noticed them when we arrived and it appears that I was not the only victim,” he told the Bulletin yesterday. “Eventually after going backwards and forwards to the pound by taxi, I had to pay over 137 euros to get my car back and my guests and I finally got to bed after midnight. They could have slapped a ticket on the car but if they're going to fence off special parking areas, do it properly. Apparently I was not the only victim either. “What kind of image is Calvia giving out to potential property buyers and holiday makers? “The police were apologetic and said they were acting on the orders of the council. I'm furious.”
