THE families of the two workers who each had a foot amputated when the bridge scaffolding on which they were working was hit by a lorry are studying the possibility of taking legal action. The families of both men, Mario Caamaño Pais, 25, and Julio Hernandez, say that working conditions were unsafe, and last week another worker was sent to hospital following a similar accident. Investigations into the crash are continuing. The driver has been questioned, and a breathalyser test proved negative.
He has allegedly told the police that he thought the height of his lorry was only four metres, and not 4.40, and that he could pass under the 4.25 metre bridge. Caamaño claimed that nobody wanted to work on the bridge. The families say that heavy traffic should have been rerouted and no vehicles should have been allowed to pass under the bridge.
