PALMA
THE forecast was right yesterday with the north east of Majorca, in particular the Port of Pollensa, and Minorca being hit by torrential showers and storms during the morning.

In Minorca, which suffered the worst of the storm, four people were injured.
A wall came crashing down under the weight of the rain injuring one woman who was caught under neath.
The fire brigade were called out to 75 emergencies in a matter of hours as 75 litres of rain fell per square metre in Mahon and 56 litres in Ciutadella.

Here in Majorca, the storms were not quite as heavy but the torrential rain caught many by surprise.
The road along the sea front of the Port of Pollensa was turned into a river within munites and many shops were flooded out. 50 litres of rain fell per square metre in the Port and Pollensa when the storm hit the resort at 10am dumping litres of rain on the area for 30 minutes.

In Lluc, 20 litres of rain was registered per square metre while in Capdepera, gale force winds peaking at 99 kilometres per hour reported causing problems for local shipping.

High winds also caused a few problems for air traffic at Mahon Airport in Minorca.
The temperatures also dropped slightly, as forecast, and conditions will continue to feel rather cool today although only Minorca is on rain alert with conditions forecast to start improving slightly with a return of the summer and the sun on Sunday and the fine weather should continue at least until Thursday when more thundery showers can be expected to return to the Balearics as Autumn starts to near.
