Partido Popular in Manacor plan to “derail” tram-style train route

THE ruling Partido Popular on Manacor Town Council is backing a demonstration to be held next Tuesday in Palma against building the new train route to Arta through the centre of Manacor.

A delegation of demonstrators, led by local Mayor Antoni Pastor will be transported in coaches to the Balearic Parliament buildings where the protest will be held. Pastor said that thousands of people in Manacor are against plans to run the tram-style train through the centre of the town because they claim it will ruin the neighbourhood atmosphere and at the same time, cut Manacor in two. Pastor is planning to present the list of mass signatories to Parliament.

Pastor claimed yesterday that the town Council in Manacor voted against the tram-style train route through the town but that the government are “ignoring the wishes of the people.”
