Palma.—Four children and five adults suffered injuries of varying degrees on Wednesday night when two cars collided head on at the final stage of the Inca motorway where it approaches Sa Pobla. The Guardia Civil said that for more than an hour, traffic was disrupted, as Emergency Services rescued and treated the nine victims. Apparently, for reasons that are still being investigated, one of the cars involved in the accident had veered into the opposite lane.

According to the Guardia Civil a Fiat Panda occupied by a British couple and two girls aged 5 and 10 was apparently hit head on by a Daewoo Lanos carrying five people of Spanish and Romanian origin. The Fiat Panda tried to avoid the car which had swerved into the oncoming lane but failed to do so, resulting in a major collision. The aftermath was a scene of devastation with the injured trapped inside their cars. The 38-year-old driver of the Panda was only slightly hurt whilst his wife was seriously injured. The older girl had escaped with cuts and bruises but the younger child had suffered broken bones.

In the second car, the 27-year-old female Romanian driver and another woman aged 44 were seriously hurt.
