WHEN Lord Andrew Lloyd- Webber visits his hideaway in Deya, more often than not it is to work on a new project.
And, in fact, he spent part of a number of visits to the island working on his latest musical The Woman in White.
The gala royal premiere of the musical was held on Monday at the Palace Theatre in London and was attended by the Prince of Wales and Camilla Parker Bowles.
The performance was in support of The Prince's Trust charity.
It marked the comeback to the West End stage of Michael Crawford, who plays the villain, Count Fosco. Crawford, now 62, last appeared in the West End in another Lloyd-Webber musical, Phantom of the Opera, in 1986. The heroine is played by Maria Friedman and the £4 million production is directed by Trevor Nunn.
The Woman in White has book and lyrics by Charlotte Jones (Humble Boy) and David Zippel (City of Angels).
It is freely based on the Victorian thriller by Wilkie Collins, involving damsels in distress, a wicked aristocrat, lunatic asylums, family fortunes, desolate mansions and a sinister Secret Society. Lloyd-Webber bought a home in Deya about two years ago and said during a recent interview that he loves the island. He was quoted as saying that it has some of the best restaurants in the world.
