JOBS in the Balearic construction industry during August fell by 8.6 percent in comparison with July this year, highlighting the Islands as the region of Spain with the worst current record for unemployment in this sector, reported international financial analysts, Afi, yesterday.

The analyst survey was conducted using data from Social Security affiliation records. The Association for Temporary Job Agencies (Agett) meanwhile said that jobs have disappeared this year at twice the rate they did in 2008. Separately, activity in the construction industry in the Balearics tailed off by -2 percent in August whereas the service industry enjoyed an upturn of +2 percent.
