Under-age brawler arrested for using broken bottle to stab victim

NATIONAL Police have arrested a 17-year-old youth for reportedly attempting to kill a 21-year-old man with a broken bottle during a brawl outside a bar in Calas de Mallorca in the municipality of Manacor, sources close to the investigation said yesterday.

The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday morning after both men had been thrown out of the bar. A row and fight ensued during which the detainee smashed a bottle against a lamppost and attacking his victim from behind, drove the jagged edge of the glass into his neck. By chance, the stabbing didn't cut any important artery and so the victim's life is not in danger. The stabbing had affected instead, the muscles of the neck.

INTERNED
The accused was made to appear at a Court for Minors in Palma after he gave a statement at a police station.
He will be interned at a centre for under-age delinquents for his alleged murder attempt until a date for a court hearing and sentencing is secured.
