AS the island counted the cost of the storms, Civil Defence maintained the alert because of the threat of further bad weather.
The weather man said that more hailstorms could be expected, with rain of more than 30 litres per square metre, with strong winds off the coasts of Majorca.
The Balearic ministry of agriculture and fisheries was yesterday inspecting local farms to evaluate the damage to crops.
Initial reports say that many crops have been destroyed completely.
Many farmers are not insured, despite strong ministry recommendations, following similar natural disasters.
