STAFF REPORTER “THE Balearic Islands are weathering the storm of the recession better than many other regions of the country,” said Spain's Prime Minister, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero at a Parliamentary session in Madrid on Tuesday.

He was responding to a question from Balearic senator, Pere Sampol who had asked the Prime Minister if there were guarantees that the Islands were to receive Central Government funding in line with the average for other regions of Spain. The PM claimed that a restructured financing plan will “reflect the needs of the Balearics”
