STAFF REPORTER A “significant” quantity of money has been found during an anti-drugs and fire arms operation in the notorious Palma suburb of Son Banya, said Guardia Civil sources yesterday.

The money was reportedly found below the concrete floor surface of an outhouse whilst a hundred or so police officers were taking part in operation “Musaraña” (creepy-crawly) against the drug racketeering gypsy clans of “La Paca “ and “Los Valencianos.” National Police sources confirmed that only one arrest has been secured after officers caught a man who attempted to flee the scene of one of several searches which were undertaken from 10am onwards at five homes in Son Banya and in four outhouses.

The heavy equipment of the Majorcan Fire Service had been called upon to help the police drill through floor surfaces resulting in the discovery of the cash haul, the amount of which has still not been disclosed. It is believed the money could be the result of the sale of drugs or arms.
