PALMA
MUNICIPAL bus company EMT is not going to put up the cost of its fares next year which means the basic single fare will remain at 1.25 euros, said the city's Mayor, Aina Calvo, yesterday.

Calvo was speaking at a Transport conference organised by EMT at the Sa Nostra Cultural Centre in Palma, entitled “The client as the driving force behind public transport.” Calvo, accompanied on the occasion by Transport Councillor Joaquin Rodriguez, described the bus company's decision not to put up fares as “valiant” and “in the interests of citizens” given that it will help people combat the current recession.

The Mayor claimed that since she had been head of Palma City Council, there had been significant changes in the way that public transport offered services to the public. She said that EMT had established tariffs that favoured those who travel by bus on a regular basis with season tickets for 10 and 50 journeys priced at 8 and 23 euros respectively.
