THE average cost of employing a member of staff in the Balearics went up to reach 2'387.48 euros per month during the first half of the year, said the National Institute of Statistics (INE) yesterday.

The figure, which includes salary and social security payments, is a 5.9 percent increase on the same period last year and makes the Balearics the region of Spain where the cost of employment has risen by the second highest figure in the country, beaten only by Murcia where the increase was 6.4 percent. The rise in the average cost of employment in the Balearics from January to June this year, was higher than the national average increase which stood at 3.9 percent, confirmed the INE. In the Balearics, the average salary was 1'763 per month in the first half of the year, 5.5 percent higher than it was during the same period in 2008.
