Palma.—Cancer charities on Majorca are being supported by plans to hold a Gala Dinner at Hotel Cap Rocat in the Bay of Palma and through the sale of a specially photographed calendar celebrating women aged 50 and over who, because of illness, have become less confident about their appearance.

Key to the project is photographer Samantha Hemsley who lost her own mother to cancer two years ago, aged just 58. Samantha is using her creative and sensitive artistic talent to raise money for a cause that she and many others greatly believe in.

Support networks such as MacMillan Nurses do not operate on Majorca but the charities which will benefit from the sale of the calendar and the gala dinner will be Cancer Support Group Mallorca; Project Micky; AECC (the Spanish Association for the Fight against Cancer); and Dime (www.cuentaconnosotros.es).

The calendar, with a high quality mixture of colour and black and white photographs will be launched at the gala dinner on Saturday 12th November, with projected ticket sales of 350. Ticket price is 100 euros.

The evening, capturing the theme of fifties glamour, will take place at Cap Rocat, a former military fortress, now renovated into a luxurious five-star hotel.

Strategic promotion and PR is in progress to raise awareness of both the calendar and the event. Press interest has resulted in coverage of the project in a special edition of one of the major international publications in Majorca and possible coverage in a high quality women's publication in the UK. The website www.celebrationofwomen.org will promote both the calendar and the event, and provide an online purchase system for the calendar and link to event ticket sales. A charity association called In Celebration of Life is being set up to handle the finance.
