The Police said yesterday that they had arrested a 37-year-old Spanish head chef, J.V.C.R. at a hotel in the municipality of Manacor for alleged sexual attacks on five workers in the same establishment..
The chef, who was also responsible for contracting kitchen staff apparently secured sexual favours by threatening the women with the sack if they did not comply, investigating sources reported.
According to the Police, J.V.C.R. had got in touch with his future victims through an advertisement posted on the internet, offering them stable employment. He then later found jobs for them in the kitchen of the hotel where he worked.
Several of the women who had been singled out by J.V.C.R. asked to have unpaid leave rather than give in to his sexual demands. His last victim gave in after J.V.C.R. attacked her husband out of spite because she had at first refused the accused's advances. J.V.C.R. only came to Majorca for the tourist season but otherwise lived on the mainland.
