The Secretary of State for Tourism, Isabel Borrego, said yesterday that Spain was on course to welcome more than 58 million tourists this year, an all time record.
So far this year an estimated 38 million tourists have come to Spain and Borrego said that August had proved to be a very good month for tourism, as well.
Tourists spent an estimated 32,000 million euros while they were on holiday, a rise of four percent. Borrego went on to say that tourism made up 11 percent of Spain’s Gross National Product and gave jobs to almost 12 percent of the working population.
“Spain is the top nation in the world when it comes to beach tourism, it is one of the top countries in the world for tourism spending,” she said yesterday.
