THE Balearic government says that the cost of damage caused by the tornado which hit Valldemossa on Wednesday will be at least three million euros.
Minister of the interior José María Rodriguez yesterday gave provisional estimates caused by the tornado and the wind, rain and hail storms which hit other parts of the island. He stressed that the figures were only provisional because the affected parties were still reporting the extent of the damage to their town halls and agriculture ministry inspectors were still evaluating the losses to farming. Rodriguez praised the attitude of the storm victims and the work of emergency services, civil defence, the Valldemossa town hall, the telephone company and the power company GESA. More than 100 people are working in the area and will continue to do so for as long as necessary, he said. The Balearic government has also offered to co-operate with insurance companies, so that claims could be settled as quickly as possible.
