THE Royal Navy Frigate HMS Campbeltown leaves the port of Palma tomorrow, heading for the Gulf area, after a short break on the island, during which the crew took part in various sporting events organised in their honour. She will be going on to fulfil a three and a half month deployment as part of the Royal Navy's presence in East of Suez, and will be operating with other Royal Navy and foreign naval vessels. For part of the deployment, she will be carrying out maritime surveillance and boarding operations in support of the global fight against terrorism. The Campbeltown's Commanding Officer, Captain Bruce Williams OBE Royal Navy described her as “one of the most powerful warships in the Royal Navy. She is a tangible demonstration of the UK's commitments as a worldwide force for good and to fight against global terrorism.” Prior to her visit to Palma, the Cambeltown was deployed for seven and a half months as Flagship to NATO's Standing Naval Force Atlantic, during which she participated in the Spanish exercise Maritime Commitment 04 off Cadiz. She then visited Northern France in support of D-Day+60 years commemorations in June, after which she participated in a NATO exercise.
