THE reservoirs managed by Palma council, through the company EMAYA, have received more than 150 litres of water per square metre so far in September.
This has put the reservoirs back to nearly 50 percent of their total capacity, 11 percentage points more than during September last year.
The intense and localised rain on Majorca during the last few days has broken the run of dryness which the island suffered during the Summer months, according to EMAYA sources. Actually, the reservoirs at Cuber and Gorg Blau are at 48.12 percent of their total capacity with around six million cubic metres stored in them, the sources said. The Gorg Blau reservoir has 1'927 million cubic metres, some 26.17 percent of its capaciy, while the Cuber reservoir is at 82.90 percent of its capacity with a 3'851 cubic metres stored. The violent storms and torrential rain seen over the last few days has made this month the second rainiest of the whole year so far, only exceeded by the month of January, said the EMAYA sources.

On average, 2006 has already exceeded the levels recorded in the last three years.
