PALMA
SUMMER officially comes to an end on Monday and it is fittingly going to rain heavily in parts of the Balearics.
Some areas of Majorca and Minorca were hit by sudden and heavy showers early afternoon as an aperitif of what is going to come over the next three or four days and temperatures dropped sharply by 8ºC in just four hours.

AT 12.30, the maximum temperature in Majorca reached 30ºC but, by 5pm, the temperature had fallen to 21.8ºC.
However, according to the head of the Balearic Meteorological Office, Agustin Jansa, the rain will be welcomed.
This summer has apparently been warmer than usual, in particular this month so far, and drier.
Jansa said that the average increase of 1.5ºC in temperature this month is in line with climate change while average rainfall has been lower.
Despite the traditional end of summer storms at the end of last month and this weekend, September rainfall in Sa Pobla, for example is 37 litres less than the norm. Just four litres of rain have been registered in the town over the past few weeks.

In Porto Pi. Palma, a metre 10 litres of rain have been recorded this month, 17 litres less than usual.
However, thanks to the unusually wet Spring, Majorca's water supplies have been unaffected by the dry summer and the short, sharp torrential showers over the coming days will help top up the water reservoirs.

Yesterday nearly 20 litres of rain fell in many parts of Majorca in just one hour while in Porreres, 27 litres of rain was dumped on the town in just 10 minutes causing some flash flooding.
