SELLING of holidays on the internet, tailor-made to the requirements of the customer, was one of seven recommendations made yesterday by the Majorcan Hotel Federation of Majorca (FEHM).

The FEHM claimed that greater use of technology could prove a powerful promotional tool and that it could be used to greatest effect if both public and private companies combined their expertise to harness it. The recommendations made by FEHM to address the marketing of next year's Balearic holiday offer are to be compiled and presented to the Tourism Committee at the Chamber of Commerce.

It is hoped that they will act as a lynch pin around which tour operators, travel agencies and the hostelry industry can function. The FEHM suggests that already-existing key client markets such as the United Kingdom and Germany be maintained and reinvigorated whilst emerging ones (Russia, Poland, Serbia, the Ukraine) be nurtured.

The Federation wants to see the diversification of the holiday offer with more emphasis on sports and culture, to improve the way that the Balearics is promoted at world travel fairs, to create better access to the Islands with the opening up of more air routes, and to coordinate strategy so that it can be targeted with the best possible results.
