By Humphrey Carter A 47-year-old Bulgarian was in police custody last night after his wife was found dead at their family home in Santanyi - official sources said yesterday that the 36-year-old appeared to have been strangled.

The couple, who have a two-year-old son and an 11-year-old girl, have lived in Spain for the past seven years and moved to Santanyi in 2007.
It appears that the couple had begun arguing on Sunday night and the body of the 36-year-old was discovered by members of the Guardia Civil 5am yesterday morning after their 11-year-old daughter had rushed round to the Guardia Civil barracks to raise the alarm.

The central government delegate to the Balearics, Ramon Socias, said yesterday that the husband did not have a history of domestic violence and that “there had been neither signs of domestic violence nor reasons to be suspicious,” he said.

Socias also revealed that “first impressions” suggest that the victim had been strangled.
