PALMA
AN ever increasing number of Majorca's retailers are not looking forward to this coming winter.
Last week, Majorca's small shopkeepers' association, Pimeco, carried out an island wide survey of its members and just over 60 percent complained that sales figures registered during the first six months of this year are well down on those recorded during the first half of 2008.

What is more, 78 percent of the small retail sector maintains that the situation on Majorca's high streets is worse than this time last year. 19.6 percent maintain to have noticed little difference while only 4.2 percent showed any signs of optimism. The summer sales did little to lift consumer confidence and nearly 64 percent of the island's commercial sector fears that things are going to get worse over the coming months.
