Fornalutx.—Sailors from the visiting U.S. Navy cruiser, Monterey, yesterday helped give the Can Xoroi cultural centre in Fornalutx a spring clean.
Twenty sailors from the state-of-the-art warship, which is paying a courtesy visit to the port of Palma, helped by painting the cultural centre´s shutters and other tasks.

The commander of the Monterey, Captain James Kirby and the U.S. Consular Agent Amy Christiansen, later visited the centre to see the work which had been carried out by the group of sailors.

The Mayor of Fornalutx, Joan Alberti, gave the party a guided tour of the cultural centre which is owned by the council.
Today, a group of U.S. sailors will be heading to Petra to carry out similar work on the museum dedicated to the pioneering Majorcan monk Fray Junipero Serra, who founded numerous missions in California.
