PALMA
THE Balearics airline industry is facing a winter of discontent this year with workers employed in the sector planning a mass protest in Palma on the 29th of this month and Iberia handling staff announcing an ongoing strike from 5th December.
Union representatives for the Balearic-based work force said yesterday: The airline companies are cutting many jobs in the region, an act which is contravening agreements which were reached and signed as long ago as 2005.
Workers' Union spokespersons - Llorenç Dolç, Carmen Diaz and Jaume Grimalt - announced the protest and strike movements yesterday. Iberia handling staff in Palma will work to rule on 21st and 28th November and as of the 5th December, there will be an indefinite strike.
