PALMA
EMERGENCY services in Majorca and Minorca continued to remain on Yellow Alert as weathermen warned of more snow and storms in the Balearics.
The Met Office issued the weather warning as more snow fell overnight in the Tramuntana mountains on Majorca and temperatures over the Islands were forecast to fall even further.
The State Meteorological Office in Madrid predicted that the level of snowfall will remain at 700 and 900 metres above sea level in the southeast of the mainland and in the Balearics. Also in the Islands, the south of Valencia, Murcia, the eastern part of Andalucia, the Straits of Gibraltar and the Spanish city of Melilla in North Africa experienced moderate localised showers accompanied by high winds.
The unsettled weather was interspersed with stormy squalls which were particularly strong in the area around the Straits.
