SEVERAL individuals, their faces hidden by ski masks, stole four cars and set two others on fire at a car hire firm in S'Illot.
A Local Police patrol car spotted a vehicle speeding at about 5am and set off in pursuit.
The car hit a tree and the occupants fled on a scooter.
Seconds later, the officers were informed by the emergency services that there were two cars on fire at the car hire premises.
The fire brigade was called and they were met at the premises by the manager.
The police officers found that one or more persons had entered the premises by cutting a hole in the metal fence and then driving a car against the wall.
It is believed that they got hold of the keys of several cars and petrol, which they used to set two cars on fire, and drove off in four others.
The police officers have recovered two of the stolen cars.
The firemen stayed on guard duty because of the danger of the fire re-igniting and spreading to a nearby petrol station.
