THE traders association Nou Centre has complained about the disgraceful traffic chaos which is ruining their Christmas trade.
Nou Centre covers the area of Calles Aragon, Gilabert de Centelles and Costa i Llobera, and the shopkeepers put the blame on the Local Police, accusing them of being too passive.
In a communique, the association claimed that the police officers remained impassive outside the door of a department store, as though they were private security guards, ignoring the traffic situation. All they do, the communique said, is occasionally close part of the streets to traffic, which causes serious access problems. Fewer cars and pedestrians go to the area, and this in turn means sales go down.
Pimeco, the small and medium sized business organisation to which the Nou Centre association belongs, said that the city council's lack of foresight was intolerable adding that it should be protecting the interests of all the traders not just one firm.
