The Plaza Mayor was the setting for Majorca’s One Billion Rising campaign yesterday afternoon with people from across the island joining the fight against domestic violence.

Palma.—This was the second consecutive year that the global event was marked in Majorca and, as a result of widespread publicity a huge crowd turned out to give their support to the campaign.
One Billion Rising is a global campaign to end violence against women, rise for justice and promote gender equality.
 It was started in 2012 as part of the V-Day movement.
The “billion” refers to the UN statistic that one in three women will be raped or beaten in their lifetime, or about one billion.
