In response to the weekend’s protests against oil prospecting off Ibiza and the Balearic government’s tough rhetoric, Cairn Energy yesterday issued another statement.

Palma.—On the day that Balearic President, Jose Ramon Bauza, warned that if permission is finally given by Madrid for oil prospecting to go ahead, every step will be taken to protect the Balearics.
In Parliament, he repeated that he and his government  is unanimously opposed to the oil projects but stressed until central government in Madrid makes its position clear, there is little the Balearic government can do.
