Palma.—There does appear to be some optimism on the high streets now that the summer sales kicked off yesterday morning.
The retail sector in general is expecting to port better results that for last year’s summer sales, although the small to medium, sized retail sector is not as up beat as the larger super and department stores.
El Corte Inglés got the sales well and truly under way when they opened their doors to queuing customers offering savings of 60 percent on the first day of the sales.
According to the department store, the first few days of the sales are the most important, it is when much of the business is done, and that is why this year, the store has decided to begin with some very ‘aggressive’ discounting.
And, by all accounts, it looked as though the market strategy was working yesterday.
