King Felipe VI of Spain certainly won over the hearts and minds of local politicians yesterday during a busy morning of talks about the island’s problems and future challenges.

Palma.—The morning began with a meeting with the President of the Balearics, Jose Ramon Bauza at Almudaina Palace.
Emerging from the talks, Bauza said that he stressed upon the King the need for oil and gas prospecting in the Balearic waters to be halted and that the Balearic Government is fighting to get a better financial deal from central government.
“I explained to the King that the Balearics is one of the most financial hampered regions in Spain thanks to the lack of money received from Madrid,” Bauza said.
During the hour long meeting the King and the President touched on a number of other subjects and during the talks, the King expressed his deep affection for the Balearics and said that the royal family will continue to holiday at Marivent Palace for many years to come yet.
