The Mayor of Calvia made it quite clear last night that he is taking the matter of alleged police corruption extremely seriously.

Palma.—Mayor Manuel Onieva warned that “if heads have to roll, then they  will,  but we have to be prudent,”  in  reference to the former Chief of Calvia Local Police,  Jose Antonio Navarro,  and two other members of the force being jailed this week under the suspicion of alleged extortion.
During  a  press conference called yesterday evening, Onieva  reminded those present that there is  a  ‘gagging order’  still in place over the investigation  “so, for that reason we do not know what the three are exactly  being charged  with, so for the time being we have to be prudent.”
But, the Mayor of Calvia warned that if anyone has committed a crime “the consequences will be tough, strict, immediate and unquestionable, who ever they may affect.
“In the meantime, we need to let  the  judicial process follow its course and I have full faith in the system,” he added.
