Retail groups, Palma councillors and bar and restaurant associations met yesterday to lay down the  foundations  for a plan to inject some more life into the city.

Palma.—The meeting was presided over by the Palma City Councillor for the Economy and Commerce, Joaquin Garcia and was attended by  the director general for commerce, Lourdes Cardona, the presidents of the two main retail associations Afedeco and Pimeco, Pau Bellinfante and Bernat Coll respectively and representatives from the various bar and restaurant associations.
The main objective is to inject some new life into the city centre and the first area where this new committee intends to act is calle San Miguel, Via Sindicato and the Avenidas - including the Plaza Mayor.
The two retail associations represent nearly 500 businesses in the city centre and they have all agreed to cooperate in the new scheme which is going to be drawn up over the next few weeks so that it can be introduced in the autumn and ‘dynamise’ the  city centre over the winter.
