The summer sales were due to have come to a close at the end of last month but the majority of retailers are continuing to try and make up for a poor August.

Palma.—Retail association Pimeco, which represents the small to medium sized independent retailers, said yesterday that around 60 percent of its member have decided to extend the summer sales period to compensate for a very slow August.

Frustrated
According to a Pimeco source, only 18 percent of its members reported better takings than August of last year.
“And that goes against everything we all expected at the start of the sunnier sales,” the source added.
22 percent of Pimeco’s members posted year-on-year down turns in takings and admitted to  being very down hearted and surprised considering all the political talk of the country coming out of recession.
The remaining 60 percent of Pimeco members said that takings were on par with last August, although they too expected better results this year.
