Kate Mentink was born in Edinburgh and, while she now holds a Spanish passport, she has by no means lost her accent nor her love for her country of birth.

Palma.—With eight days left  remaining  until Scotland goes to the polls to vote on whether it wants to remain part of the Union or independence,  Edinburgh-born and raised former  Calvia Councillor and Director of The Department for European Citizens within the Ministry of Immigration and Cooperation, Kate Mentink, said yesterday that which ever way the vote goes on 18 September “it will be a very sad day for Scotland”.
Mentink has travelled the world and lived in Majorca for some 30 years, she now holds Spanish citizenship, but Scotland has never been far from her heart. In fact she has only just returned from visiting friends and family and is worried about what is going to happen if Scotland, or a slight majority, vote ‘Yes’.
“This referendum has opened a Pandora’s box and I honestly think that it should never have been allowed to have gone ahead.
“I think the problem is that initially, no one really took it seriously, on either side of the border, but gradually, and in particular more  recently, people have realised the severity of the matter  but there is no information out there.
“Everywhere I went, Glasgow, Edinburgh, every body is talking about it, in taxis, on the buses, in the pubs, on the high street but there is not enough information.
“How is Scotland going to manage its economy and what is it going to be built on? What about the Pound, is Scotland having it or not?
