Former ex-Royal Marine Commando Andy Grant is a familiar face for many in Majorca and now he is one of the heroes of the Invictus Games.

Palma.—At 5am on 3 February, 2008, Andy and his friend Ian Syme were on patrol with Yankee Company, 45 Commando in the Upper Sangin, Afghanistan, when they were both caught in an improvised explosive device trap which had been set by the Taliban in an irrigation ditch.
Both Marines were left fighting for their lives and Andy was lucky not to have lost his right leg.
The then 21-year-old Andy, from Bootle, was in an induced coma for 11 days before waking up in Selly Oak NHS Hospital in Birmingham where he was treated for a shattered leg and a total of 27 multiple wounds to his whole body.
He was later transferred to Headley Court and a Russian cage was fitted to his leg to dry and allow bones to grow back in order to save his leg.
