Palma.—The body of Javier Pierotti, who was to the fore in revealing excesses in Magalluf, in highlighting allegations of corruption and in wishing to bring about changes to improve the resort, was discovered on Saturday morning by the castle in Alaró.
He had apparently taken his own life, the Guardia Civil saying that he had ingested pharmaceuticals as well as alcohol and had also cut his neck.
Argentinian Pierotti, 40, had worked for some twenty years around the Punta Ballena area in Magalluf. He was very well known and very well liked and had commanded a great deal of respect for his campaign to create a better Magalluf.
The shock at the news of his death has been felt not only in Magalluf but across Majorca.

He came to prominence during the summer of 2013 when he released a video entitled Caos which showed disturbing scenes of cars trapped on the Punta Ballena by hordes of young tourists.
The video highlighted the absence of police response.  Subsequently, he produced a lengthy document which catalogued problems in the resort and made recommendations for improvements.
This document was sent to various authorities, which included the national government.
It was a document which received no positive response.
