The Balearic government was yesterday dealt is biggest blow since coming to power in 2011 when the Balearic High Court ruled that its TIL trilingual teaching  programme is “invalid”.

Palma.—Teachers and unions have been at loggerheads with the Balearic government for over a year now over the proposed TILtrilingual curriculum the government wants to introduce and yesterday, the three main teachers’ unions, the CC.OO, UGT and STEI-i won a major victory is their fight to have the curriculum scrapped.
The judiciary already told the government to amend four clauses in the original policy drawn up by the previous Minister for Education, which was the most controversial, and this the government subsequently did without consulting teachers while approving a decree that TIL will be introduced in schools across the Balearics.
However, the three main unions fighting for teachers’ rights failed to accept the amended document and took it to the Balearic High Court.
And, yesterday, the High Court ruled that the policy is invalid on two grounds.
