Palma.—Fresh calls were made yesterday for new measures to be introduced to ensure that the horses which pull the tourist carriages through Palma are better looked after and are not allowed to work during the hottest parts of the day in the summer.
The eco-nationalist party MES for Palma will table a motion at the next sitting of Palma City Council that the drivers of the carriages  undergo better training so that they know more about the city’s history and culture, and can therefore provide a more complete tour to their customers, and that new rules and regulations are introduced to improve the way in which the horses are cared for and protected.
This summer, there were at least three accidents involving the carriages and in one, a horse was killed.
MES councillor, Neus Truyol, yesterday stressed the need for strict measures to ensure the well-being of the horses.
