Christmas came early for British chef Marc when he won a Michelin Star for the second time at the end of last year, but things just keep getting better. Marc owns two restaurants in Palma and his flagship venue, Simply Fosh in the Hotel Convent de la Missio just off the Ramblas, has recently been singled out as one of the five “essential restaurants to visit in 2015” by leading daily newspaper El Pais.
The other four are in Soria, Asturias, Valladolid and Huesca on the mainland.
Marc said yesterday that he had no idea until he received a WhatsApp from fellow leading local chef Koldo Royo.
“I was really surprised at first. I had no idea it was even coming. But it was really nice to be recogniosed in this way.
“What with having won the Michelin Star for the second time in the run up to Christmas, that did wonders for business.
“I can definitely say that in December we did 400 to 500 more covers that usual in the wake of winning the star and these other recognitions are not only good for our restaurants, but Palma as a whole.
“Here at Simply over the past few years, I’ve been pushing bit by bit with picking up a star at the back of my mind.
“Not only for me and the staff but also for Palma.
“Whenever I do a promotional event overseas, I am always conscious about the fact we’re based here in Palma, and I always do my best to push that,” Marc, who has written a weekly column for the Bulletin for nearly 15 years, said yesterday.
