Less than the building collapsed in Manacor, the emergency services were called out again to a fire in calle Major de Manacor just a few blocks away from the earlier incident.
At 11.24am, the 112 emergency center received a deluge of calls reporting a fire in an apartment block and another wave of fire fighters and emergency service units were deployed in the town.
The fire had broken out in a bedroom of a five storey apartment block and the police immediately evacuated the whole building for safety reasons and residents are unlikely to be allowed to return to their homes until this morning because nearly all of the second floor had been damaged by the fire, according to the fire brigade.
The cause of the fire was still being investigated yesterday afternoon but fortunately, no one was injured. According to the 061 emergency services, one person had to be treated for the effects of smoke, but the situation was handled at the scene and the victim did not need hospital treatment.
