The Puerto Palma is finalising a plan to construct a new terminal in the Dique del Oeste for the new breed of Super liners which are being built. With the Balearic Port Authority already expecting this year to be one of the busiest on record for the Puerto Palma’s cruise terminal, it has returned from the Cruise Shipping Miami Trade Fair knowing that it has to continue further adapting the port to the ever changing size of modern cruise ships which are being built in order to compete with other major cruise destinations in Europe.
This year, the port will handle 546 cruise ships carrying over 1.5 million passengers, making it the second busiest cruise port inSpain and the 12th in the world.
However, in order to maintain that growth momentum, the port authority is planning on investing 14.8 million euros in a new terminal for the Super cruise ships.
Construction work is due to get under way at the end of this year and will last 15 months.
At times it is already going to be tight on certain days in the Puerto Palma this year.
