As has become tradition, the first group of wounded British soldiers will arrive in Palma today as guests of a local British resident. The trips are organised by the Not Forgotten Association and the British resident, who owns a large estate in Pollensa, has been throwing her doors open to wounded veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars for the past four years. Again, four groups will be coming out for a welcome week away with their partners from the daily chores of rehabilitation, for those who suffered severe wounds or an important change of scene for those battling to over come Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This first group, for example, served or are still members of  The Rifles, Royal Corps of Signals, Royal Irish and  the  Royal Regiment  of Scotland.
Included in the group is a  double amputee injured wounded in  Iraq, one single amputee and one lad who was shot in the back In Afghanistan when he was just 18 years and one  month old.
Ever since the initiative was launcher, the local community and church in Puerto Pollensa and across the island has helped but, with the British army no longer locked in conflict the terrible stories the wounded, albeit physically  or  mentally, are no longer front page news and the charities and help organisations are beginning to see donations  and support drop off.
In fact, the final group coming in June includes five amputees who will be using their trip to Majorca to continue their mountain training for when they climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise much needed funds for themselves and their comrades.
