Alfonso Robledo, the president of Restauracion Mallorca, the Majorcan association for restaurants, cafeterias and bars, and Jose Luis Roses, the president of the Chamber of Commerce, are to set in motion a project to promote the quality of the restaurant sector and to support it with a new Gold certification. The intention is that this award will be forthcoming at some point during the summer and that it will add to the drive to promote quality tourism as well as being a boost to the island’s economy. The collaboration between the two organisations represents “an ambitious project which is responding to the demands of the restaurant sector”, according to Roses, who was speaking at the initial presentation of the project in Palma yesterday morning. For the restaurateurs, Robledo stressed that it would be a programme of quality in support of establishments that have been doing and are doing things extremely well in overcoming problems caused by economic crisis.
