A 20-year-old holiday maker is in a critical condition after falling from a fourth floor balcony at a hotel in Magalluf in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The Local Police and the Guardia Civil have opened an investigation into the incident and the cause of the accident.
The hotel is located just off Punta Ballena and at around midnight an eye witness contacted the emergency services reporting that he had just seen someone fall from a hotel balcony.

According to the eyewitness, the victim crashed through a number of trees before landing on a pedestrianised street.
061 paramedics, the Local Police and the Guardia Civil rushed to the scene and it was immediately clear that the 20-year-old had suffered multiple serious injuries.

The youngster was found unconscious and bleeding from various injuries.

He was in a critical condition and paramedics had to stablise the victim before they were able to move him and rush him to hospital.

There were moments, according to 061 sources, that those on the scene feared for his life.

Serious incidents

Eventually the 20-year-old, whose nationality and identification has to be confirmed, was rushed to A&E while the Local Police and the Guardia Civil opened an immediate investigation.

They quickly established that he fell from the fourth floor, but the height is in fact greater because the hotel is built on a rise. The police spoke to a number of witnesses and people in the area at the time, but they were not able to glean much more information.

But yesterday they continued with the investigation while the young man was fighting for his life.

Guardia Civil sources said yesterday that over the past few weeks, the number of serious incidents in Magalluf have risen and most of them involve British holiday makers.
