From the roundabout at the turn-off to Bunyola, the jam extended to the entrance to the tunnel, a point where the traffic lightened when many vehicles opted to take the Coll de Soller over the mountain. The mountain road had more traffic than usual, with a greater presence of cars among the cyclists.
This summer Soller has been particularly affected by tourist overcrowding, sparking protests by local residents. Last July, residents of the locality of La Vall joined this wave of unease which is spreading among the general public who, without saying no to tourism, demand that this activity does not negatively affect their quality of life or their social and urban environment.
Before the start of the summer a series of measures were activated to try to remedy a problematic situation for the ‘sollerics’. Among the alternatives approved was to cut off traffic and divert it in the direction of Palma when the accesses to Soller and the Port become saturated. In the first case, if the queues reach the tunnel - still in the municipality of Bunyola - the Guardia Civil. will close the access to La Vall from the roundabout at the access to the tunnel, next to the Jardines de Alfabia. In this case, it is stipulated that the closure of the access to Soller would lead to the tunnel being closed for a period of around 30 minutes, to allow space to be freed up before reopening the infrastructure.

BeachcomberThe narrow gauge Sóller railway is a private company and is not part of public owned Ferrocarriles de Mallorca. It’s now mainly a tourist attraction and they will only be interested in what brings in the cash. Neither acquiring more of these wooden trains nor running later trains is likely to interest them financially.
Just add more trains and ensure that they run much later and all year round. If possible add more newer trains to boost the frequency. At the moment the timetable seems to be arranged for the convenience of staff rather than the passengers.
Grid locked, try Santanyi on a Wednesday or Saturday. The market is rubbish, only tourist tat, yet they flock. Unbelievable.
This has to be solved for the sake of the Soller (and Deia) residents. The Soller tunnel, the Coll de Soller and MA10 access to Soller both from Lluc and from Valdemossa need to be strictly controlled for tourist cars and coaches. That doesn't mean imposing a total ban - that wouldn't be good for Soller - it means actively controlling the quantity of such vehicles that can pass during the peak hours. Something well thought through must be implemented before 2025 for the sanity of the Soller residents who must be guaranteed free flowing access into and out of their municipality.
Perhaps Controlled Entry and Exit Gates could regulate the number of vehicles going to Soller etc. That will be a problem for those living in Soller. So a Residents lane only may be a help. It further highlights the fact that there are far too many Cars in Mallorca. Whether Hired or Private.
