Meghan Markle has placed a small Mallorca town at the centre of an international royal row after it appeared that her new logo is similar to the centuries old coat of arms of the town of Porreres. It was claimed that the Duchess of Sussex could have copyright issues. The new logo came as the Duchess of Sussex launched her new brand, As Ever, with a logo which appears more Porreres than Los Angeles! Both have a palm tree and two birds .

The story caused a storm online with royal watchers underlining how similar the two are with some allegedly a ccusing the Duchess of being a copy cat and demanding that the logo be scrapped..

The report made headline news in Britain with The Sun newspaper splashing the story on its front page. It is probably the first time in its long history that Porreres has made the front page of leading British tabloid!

A Porreres council spokesperson said that they would be meeting with their legal advisors to decide whether to take any action. They are unaware how Meghan discovered their coat of arms....if she ever did. Apart from complaints from some residents the council underlined the fantastic promotion the story was giving the area.

Until Meghan's involvement with Porreres (poulation, 5888 people) according to their Wilkipedia site, the town's most famous person was Buenaventura Sitjar (born 9 December 1739), a Franciscan missionary who served in California until his death. He became a friar in the Order of Friars Minor in April, 1758, joining the College of San Fernando de Mexico. In 1770 he received orders to go to California, and he reached San Diego on 21 May 1771. He helped found Mission San Antonio de Padua and served there until his death on 3 September 1808. The mission is about 300 kilometres away from where Meghan Markle lives in Montecito.

The town is known for its apricots and its agricultural industry and residents say that it is a great place to live.
