The Spanish authorities are ramping up their protection of pets, especially in cities and large towns. The latest law, which comes into force next year, will ban pet owners from permanently keeping their dogs on their balconies or risk hefty fines.

Who in their right mind would leave their dog on the balcony? Except by mistake maybe. It seems odd that there would need to be a law covering this. Like a law prohibiting cooking hamburgers with dynamite. But I suppose if it's not specifically stated that you can't, then some might think it's perfectly ok.

I would not feel safe leaving a pet on a balcony unattended with a possible worry about it jumping over the top from a great height.
