Mallorca and its winter saints
Sebastià is a plague saint. But more than this, there is good reason to believe that he was once Mallorca’s winter saint.
Saint Sebastian away from Palma
While there are bonfires for Sant Sebastià in parts of Mallorca, albeit these are difficult to distinguish from bonfires for Sant Antoni, there is little by way of organised celebration.
Sant Antoni and the Fires of Abstinence
Yet who was this sainted man? And what made him so intriguing to the people of Mallorca, that his existence is still been celebrated 1,660 years after his death?

Festiviy of Saint Ursula

A British martyr and a load of doughnuts in Mallorca
Every year on the 21st of October the Day of the Virgins is celebrated, which coincides with the feast of the martyr Saint Ursula. Doughnuts (buñuelos), carnations and serenades are the stars of this Mallorcan tradition.
Summer’s coming and so are the fiestas
The summer is one long fiesta, and it’s all thanks to the saints.

Come on, what’s your favourite ‘Saints day’?
I noticed that there were quite a few celebrations linked to St George that happened here on the island.
